Lunch, Learn, Network, Grow

Our monthly luncheon meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except when otherwise announced) at Union Jack's British Pub, located at 2072 Somerville Road in Annapolis.

Meetings begin at 11:30 am with networking, with lunch promptly served at noon as the program gets underway.  After the meal, there is additional time to network prior to the featured speaker's presentation.  The meeting concludes by 1:30 pm.

The cost to attend is $27 for members and $37 for non-members.  Students are welcome to attend at the discounted $20 student rate.  An additional fee of $5 per person applies to all reservations made after 5 PM the Tuesday before the luncheon and applies to walk-ins (both members and non-members) on the day of the luncheon.

All reservations must be accompanied by payment; and advance reservations are considered guaranteed. Your meeting fee not only covers your meal cost but substantially helps fund the organization's professional operation.

May Lunch Meeting: How to Build a Successful Team Through Effective Leadership

May 3, 2017

11:30 am to 1:30 pm

Leadership is a subject that has been written about by many people in all walks of life, and also a subject about which there are many differing opinions.  Join EE on Wednesday, May 3, when our speaker will be Captain Mark Kikta, USN, Retired, who will discuss his experiences in leadership positions during his 26-year Navy career, when he was responsible for groups ranging from 5 to 2,000 and ages 18 to 60.  Learn how he capitalized on his strengths to keep his teams motivated to perform at their best to achieve success, and how you can apply your strengths as a leader to do the same for your business.

Mark Kikta

Mark Kikta was born in Washington, DC and raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry through the Naval ROTC Program at the University of South Carolina in 1974.

After earning his Navy Wings, he went on to fly the S-3 Viking aircraft from Aircraft Carriers for over 26 years. Over that time, Mark held many leadership positions in Navy Aircraft Squadrons, Navy Aircraft Carriers as part of the ships crew, and administrative/operational organizations. He commanded two Operational Navy S-3 Viking Squadrons and the Atlantic Fleet S-3 Viking Wing consisting of 8 Squadrons. His favorite and most challenging leadership position was as the "Air Boss" onboard an Aircraft Carrier where he led a Team of 680 men with an average age of 19 yrs old. Over his career Mark has lead his organizations to many personnel "Retention" Awards and "Operational Excellence" awards.  His personal Awards include the Bronze Star, Three Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, seven Navy Commendation Medals (three with Combat "V") and numerous service related awards.

Mark retired as a Navy Captain in 1999 and went on to work in the civilian workplace for Wescam/L-3 Technologies, as a Defense Contractor. As a contractor working with the US and International Navies, he has led his company to contract awards totaling over $500M. Mark enjoys his position at L3 Technologies because he works with many people in many different organizations.

Mark prides himself on his ability to motivate his team and produce successful organizations. He has the reputation of being a straight forward leader who takes care of his people. While he certainly misses flying his jets on and off aircraft carriers, what he misses the most about the Navy is the people and working for a common goal together.
